The un-known Power of Mind - A Story

Let’s look at an example of the boundless power of the mind

This is an experience from my own life. When we immerse ourselves deeply in any subject with sincere attention, we are eventually able to reach it. Through focused mental effort, we can attain what we seek. If the resolve is strong and we make a study of the subtle energies in our environment, then with their help, it becomes possible to achieve our goals. However, understanding these subtle forces is essential.

It was my final year of Engineering. One subject in particular was proving extremely difficult for me. I was on the verge of losing the entire year. I was restless and under immense pressure. I had to pass that subject somehow. Despite my continued efforts, success was eluding me. Even at home, everyone was disappointed.
While I was studying, I continued practicing pranayama (breath control) and dhyana (meditation). Every night before sleep, I would chant the name of Gorakshanath Maharaj—a sacred practice my father had advised me. After the chant, I would mentally pray to the Maharaj and ask for help. “Please solve this situation. Please help me,” I would plead silently. This continued for many days as the exam approached, and my anxiety grew.

I continued calling upon Maharaj with my mind. I kept summoning the subtle forces that might be connected with Gorakshanath Maharaj—or even the divine "Name" itself. Days passed like this. Then one night, around 8 PM, the doorbell rang. I opened the door to find, a dusky-skinned man standing outside. He was older than me, and I had never seen him before. He smiled gently. When I asked who he was, he said:

“Are you the one currently studying Engineering here?”

I replied, “Yes.” I invited him inside. Still smiling, he stepped into the house. My father asked his name.

He said, “I am Shiv-Sharan. I’ve come from Pune. I am also studying Engineering. I need some important exam questions from you.”

I was stunned. I could barely pass the subject myself—how could I possibly help him with questions?

But from that moment forward, he guided everything: where we needed to go, who we had to meet—he laid it all out. Then, without hesitation, he said we should leave immediately to meet someone. We did, and the person we visited turned out to be someone Shiv-Sharan knew. I didn’t know either of them.

So then—why had this man come all the way from Pune to meet me? Why was he helping me? It was all such a mystery. But in the end, the very subject I had been struggling with was cleared. And I held my final certificate in my hands. We had never taken such determined steps before… So then, who really was Shiv-Sharan?

The meaning here is clear: if your willpower is strong and your intention unwavering, any goal is achievable. And if this is accompanied by spiritual connection, then that very spiritual force takes shape and aids you—this is undeniable truth. You must have a yearning for that divine force. If you continue to act with remembrance of it, it will guide you toward your destination.

I am reminded of only one thing to say at this point—

"This is where my hands find their purpose."
