Coronavirus and Our Immunity
The coronavirus had shaken the entire world, and now there is fear that it may resurface. However, on a global level, efforts have been made to control the disease, and vaccines developed by various countries have helped people. Because of this, the fear is not as strong as before, but taking care of our health is still necessary. The precautions we take will determine our safety.
Initially, the virus spread through common colds, which we already know is a contagious illness. In the past, colds would subside within two to three days, but over time, people's immunity has weakened. Before, people's natural immunity would help fight such illnesses. The essential nutrients required for the body were obtained from farming without chemicals. The grains and food grown in the soil were free of chemical fertilizers, and natural elements present in the soil would help build strong immunity. Nowadays, due to chemically treated farming, the body receives very few natural nutrients, as chemicals destroy them. As a result, chemically altered elements enter our bodies.
Because of this, immunity has been affected, and even a common cold has become difficult to tolerate. A cold can lead to fever and then become the root cause of other illnesses, making it a complicated health issue. This is why incorporating naturally grown food in our diet is crucial for boosting immunity. Although technological advancements and scientific discoveries are progressing rapidly, it is essential to ensure they do not negatively affect our health.
How to Take Care
The coronavirus primarily enters the body through the nose and settles in the throat, where it begins to spread. It gradually weakens the immune system, making it harder for the body to fight back.
Through pranayama (breathing exercises), we can control this virus. Practicing pranayama regularly strengthens the immune system and prevents external viruses from sustaining in the body for long. It is also important to consume natural foods that enhance immunity. Here are some precautions:
- Maintain daily personal hygiene.
- Wash the eyes and nose thoroughly with water. Especially clean both nostrils twice a day or after returning from crowded places, as the virus primarily enters through the nose.
- Drink hot black tea with black pepper powder, ginger powder, and other natural ingredients after returning from crowded places.
- Use turmeric and ginger powder, as they have antibacterial properties.
- Wear a mask in crowded areas or avoid such places if possible.
- Practice the pranayama exercise mentioned below.
Pranayama (Breathing Exercise)
- Sit straight with your back against a wall, keeping both palms comfortably on your lap.
- First, focus on your breathing, observing the inhale and exhale process. Try to reduce thoughts and bring the mind to a peaceful state.
- Start inhaling and count from 1 to 15 as you take a deep breath.
- By the time you reach 15, the breath should have risen to your head. Hold your breath for 8 to 10 seconds (or 5 to 8 seconds if difficult) and then release it completely.
- This will cause slight dizziness, and the mind will feel heavy.
- Now, gently bring this heaviness from the head down to the Muladhara Chakra (base of the spine) using mental focus. Hold this position.
- Repeat the process, keeping your breath steady. As the mind concentrates on Muladhara Chakra, it will influence the magnetic field in the body.
- Continue this breathing technique, but now focus instead on the throat region (Kanta Chakra) rather than the base of the spine. The throat area will experience warmth, and any external bacteria or virus present will be eliminated.
Through this pranayama, we can naturally fight off external microbes. Consistent practice will strengthen the affected area and enhance the overall immunity of the body. Similar techniques can also help with spinal pain and other issues. The more concentrated the practice, the stronger the physical and spiritual development.
There are different types of pranayama exercises that can be explored gradually. However, one should not rush—mastering a single technique can yield great benefits. The 1 to 15-count breathing method should first be perfected, as it has multiple applications in improving overall health. Without full understanding, moving to another exercise is not advised.
